For the natives of Phuket, Talang or Tha-Laang was what they used to all Thailand's largest island. The island is off Bangkok, 870 kilometers away. It lies in the Andaman Seas. The island is accessible by bridge from mainland Thailand. One can also access the island by riding a ferry, long tail boats, or by air. You can drive to Phuket from Krabi, an hour away, or take the scenic route from Bangkok which is nine-hours away.
The beach of Phuket stretches for miles after miles of pristine sand and clear blue waters. The beaches are world class so are the numerous luxury hotels and budget accommodations that pepper the island. The water sports offered in every beach resort are fun and exciting: diving, snorkeling, parasailing, skim boarding, jet skiing and more. If you have no experience doing any of these things, there are qualified and patient instructors to teach you. Phuket may well be a traveler's dream destination. The white snowy beaches of Phuket are lined with restaurants and resorts to cater to your needs. A very popular resort in Phuket is Patong Beach. This is the place to be if you are looking for an exciting nightlife. It is the hub of Phuket's shopping, fine dining, exhilarating bar scenes and throbbing nightlife. Exotic and wild is what Patong beach is.
For the quieter clientele, north of Patong beach is Kamala beach. The resort is well-developed but there are no big and luxury hotels in the vicinity. Accommodations are more in the form of low-budget huts ad bungalows along the beach front. The area is perfect for travelers who are on a budget and of course for those tireless backpackers.
Kata Beach is not as big as Patong area-wise but its beach front is teeming with various international and local restaurants, bars and club. However, the ambiance here is more family-oriented and it has none of the rowdy-noisy crowd of Patong.
Karon Beach is in the western coast of Phuket. The beach is not as crowded but it has all the amenities that a traveler could need. There are shopping areas, big hotels and night clubs to cater to guests with different budgets and needs.
Other attractions in Phuket are the Old Phuket Town where you could observe an old-world kind of ambiance. The Phuket FantaSea show is perfect for the whole family. The Wat Chalong Temple is a living testament of the spirituality of the Thais. For those who love the outdoors, trekking in the jungle of Phuket would be refreshing as one visits the fresh waterfalls in Bang Pae and Ton Sai and Bang at Khao Praew National Park.
